Rewordify - Instructional Strategy
Many of our students are not reading on grade level. It is a barrier to accessing and mastering the AKS.  We have all been in meetings and someone said, "She is a sweet student but she can not read the material" and  "They can't read the material- the reading level is too high".  We need for our students to be able to read and comprehend reading material in their LA, SS, SC, and MA classes.
Using this website could increase reading comprehension for SWD in LA, SS, SC, and MA classes.

Teach like a Pirate by Dave Burgess

  • Reading the book. Interesting on how the author integrates marketing and motivation principles into teaching. He teaches PIRATE theory to others. Big on acronyms. & hooks.
  • This link is a book summary by Dylan Wince: https://www.mrwince.com/blog/book-notes-teach-like-a-pirate-by-dave-burgess
FINISHED THE BOOK! Great information and a HUGE amount of hooks for teachers to use for their lessons!

Day #1 of GCPS Summer Leadership

Kenneth C. Williams spoke about being ruthless in our pursuit of excellence.   This resonated with how we must be ruthless in implementing UDL.  That mistakes will be made and should be embraced.

Day #2 Leave the Legacy- Becky Halstead

Leave the Legacy- Becky Halstead
Hooah- stands for anything but no. • Greatest joy is to lead the peace a legacy. • Never forget where you started. Leadership is a choice and the first person you must lead is yourself • I must be a standard for others • Who we are in the inside • Repeated the Warrior Ethos • When you figure out the mission- you figure out your purpose • Be available- never be a fallen comrade Lead with your heart & mind; struggle is good • Have to care for people • Write down your top 3 strengths & weaknesses • Stop and recognize the moment and every day you should be better • Your success ends at midnight • When you do you everything right and get • As a leader- when you communicating are you getting what you wanted or what you asked for? Leadership invest in people by building relationships Leaders circulate, communicate, and connect. Leaders make a difference: go beyond success to significance. • Raise the goal • Significance is about changing lives.

Why Revolution?

Revolution

Latin: revolutio, "a turn around"

Webster has several definitions of revolution. How the word is used depends on the context of the sentence. I like this definition of revolution the best "a fundamental change in the way of thinking about or visualizing something or a change of paradigm".

In today's classroom, we are missing the opportunity to remove the barriers that are stopping the learning of ALL students. We are not allowing the student to show mastery in the way that fits them the best.  We point the fingers at the student and the teacher. We almost always label the student and/or the teacher as the barriers to learning. We never look at the curriculum as the barrier. We do not teach the teachers how to anticipate the barriers of learning. Education needs a turnaround, a UDL Revolution.
